Cookietastic produces a range of unique gourmet artisan cookie mixes in jars, party bags, wedding favours and other seasonal decorated cookies. The business is run by business women and entrepreneur Ann-Marie. Ann-Marie studied business at university and quickly recognised the impact professional images would have on her business.
The photo shoot
The client brief was to have clear quality images of a range of cookie jars, displayed on a white background, for use on the cookietastic website.
To set the scene for the shoot we laid a white table cloth on the table. We used a large softbox (1 metre square), metered one stop more than the subject. This would create the desired white background. We also used a set of white reflector cards to bounce back some soft light towards the jars. The technical bit...........the camera will meter for 18% grey across the whole image. This is how the metering system on cameras work. When a white background is desired, it is essential to light the background to achieve a crisp white background. A white background that is not lit will appear grey!
The choice of lens for the shoot was the Canon 100mm macro. This was fitted to my 5D mk2. An awesome combination for this type of photography. With the lighting set we marked a spot on the table cloth for the jars to stand on. This gave us consistency with the lighting of the images. The camera now on manual mode and the lighting controlled by a remote trigger. One by one we photographed the jars.
Back at base every image was tweaked in photoshop to perfection before viewing by the client.
